Healing requires environments where individuals feel safe, relaxed, and free from stress. Modern healthcare facilities often enclose patients in restrictive spaces that diverge from our inherent connection to the natural world. This separation can increase anxiety and hinder the recovery process. The challenge is to create care environments that actively support physical and mental wellbeing through thoughtful architectural design.

This research examines how fundamental elements, natural light, nature views, cultural colour schemes, and acoustics, directly impact the healing journey. The study highlights how daylight regulates essential bodily functions, while controlled acoustic environments reduce stress for both patients and medical staff. The research addresses the necessity of adapting colour palettes to reflect local cultural values across Europe, ensuring spaces resonate with their specific community.

The research concluded with a concept design as an exercise to bring together the findings from the paper in a visual form. This proposal illustrates a flexible space that functions as a recovery room, a patient room, or a care home room, demonstrating how strategic window placements, acoustic treatments, and seamless connections to nature come together in practice.
